Brighton Culture & History

Brighton became a fishing village as early as in 13th century but the official name of Brighton was accepted only at the beginning of the 18th century. Brighton quickly continued to expand into the 20th century, and a visit by Prince Phillip ensured the popularity of this British city by the sea, and increased its reputation as a leading holidays' resort.

Brighton merged with its neighbouring town Hove in late '90s and many cosmetic architectural alterations and improvements followed inside this city.

 

Brighton Museum & Art Gallery, Royal Pavilion Gardens

Brighton Museum & Art Gallery found in Royal Pavilion Gardens, has been transformed in ideal way to provide an easy access to the museum's national collections and treasures. The entrance is free of charge and the museum stays open throughout the year. Brighton Museum boasts with 20th century art and design collection, pottery items, fine art, fashion and style and much more.

Brighton Royal Pavilion

The Royal Pavilion is a former Royal Palace - the home for the Prince Regent during the early 1800s and is notable for its Indian architecture and Oriental interior design. The building and surrounding grounds were purchased by the town in 1849.

 

Brighton Pier

Formerly known as the Palace Pier, Brighton Pier is a place to have good time and enjoy yourself. Today, it is the largest pier in Brighton and features many tourist attractions such as large funfair, restaurants and arcade halls. Many families visit Brighton Pier in the weekends to spend some fun time together.

 

St. Nicholas Church

The oldest place of worship today in Brighton, St. Nicholas church was built in Norman times in the 11th century, but the current architecture dates from the 14th century. It is the oldest building in Brighton, affectionately known as the "Mother Church" of Brighton. Other famous churches include St. Bartholomew's and the church of St. Peter.
