Brighton became a fishing village as early as in 13th century but the official name of Brighton was accepted only in early 18th century. Brighton continued to expand into the 20th century, and a visit by Prince Phillip ensured the popularity of this British city by the sea, and increased its reputation as a leading holidays' resort.
Brighton merged with its neighbouring town Hove in late '90s and many cosmetic alterations and improvements followed inside this city.
